The Society for General Music is currently accepting applications for the 2019 Society for
General Music Teacher of the Year. This is meant to be a distinguished honor bestowed upon
one worthy teacher annually on behalf of the West Virginia Society for General Music and the
West Virginia Music Educators Association.
In addition to being members of NAfME and WVMEA, candidates for this award must teach
General Music in West Virginia, serving students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Proof of
NAfME membership is screened within the application process. Nominees must have at least
three years of full-time teaching experience at the time of nomination. TOY candidates must
receive a minimal score of 65 out of 100 to be eligible. If there are no applications that meet all
of these requirements, then no TOY will be chosen. Educators who have already been named a
WVSGM Teacher of the Year are not eligible. For a complete list of past winners, visit the SGM
